Vision Shared activities involve everything from community based workshops to legislative policy development and advocacy. An excellent example is the Create WV movement operated by Vision Shared’s Creative Communities Team; by holding an annual statewide conference and local training sessions, this team shows communities how to approach development challenges by embracing the dynamics of the “New Economy.”
In recent health care accomplishments, Vision Shared managed the Roadmap to Health Project in 2008 (a collaboration of roughly 400 volunteers established by the West Virginia Legislature). Legislation passed in 2009 created the Governor’s Office of Health Enhancement and Lifestyle Planning to coordinate government health care providers, launch pilot projects using the patient-centered medical home care model, encourage the use of health information technology and focus on wellness and health promotion.
Vision Shared also launched or partnered on several entrepreneurship initiatives, such as the Young Entrepreneurship Support Network (YESNetwork) which assists young entrepreneurs and fosters a sense of community among that population; the West Virginia Angel Network, an early-stage funding network (in collaboration with the I-79 Development Council and the Concord University Entrepreneurship Center); and TechConnect WV, a new non-profit that operated as a Vision Shared team before becoming a free- standing organization dedicated to technology-based economic development.
Going forward, Vision Shared will continue to report on our accomplishments, so check back with us periodically for updates.
